Relief, and a Needed Break

DENVER― We are relieved that this week’s versions of ACA-repeal-and-replace have been voted down in the U.S. Senate. Every version was projected to result in millions of Americans becoming uninsured, and that’s not the America we want to move toward.

We recognize the hard work that has gone into this debate thus far and the strong concerns with the health care system as it stands today. We can do better: better at designing legislation that will help our friends and neighbors obtain the health care they need, and better at de-politicizing and de-polarizing the issues of coverage and access to health care. We urge all members of Congress to use a thoughtful, bi-partisan, open process to consider changes to the health care system, including to Medicaid and to the insurance markets.

Members of Congress and their staff need a break. Come on home: National Health Center Week is approaching fast and we welcome you to the many events going on around Colorado!

The Colorado Community Health Network (CCHN) is the unified voice for Colorado’s 20 Community Health Centers (CHCs) and their patients. CHCs provide a health care home for more than 700,000 of their community members – more than one in eight people in Colorado – from 61 of the state’s 64 counties. Without CHCs, hundreds of thousands of Colorado’s low-income families and individuals would have no regular source of health care. CCHN’s mission is to increase access to high quality health care for people in need in Colorado. For more information about CCHN, please visit www.cchn.org.
