Clinic Operations and Workforce

Overview

CCHN helps to grow, strengthen, and sustain Community Health Centers (CHCs) in Colorado in the areas of:

  • Compliance with federal and state rules and regulations
  • CHC clinic operations
  • Workforce development, recruitment, and retention
  • Community development

CCHN achieves this by providing direct and statewide training, technical assistance, and resources to existing CHCs and to Colorado communities exploring the CHC model. A component of this support is the peer groups CCHN runs for CHC leadership and clinic staff, which meet regularly, and communicate via online forums.

Priority Areas

Compliance with Federal and State Rules and Regulations

CCHN aids and provides resources to CHCs to ensure understanding of and compliance with Health Center Program Requirements, the Federal Torts Claims Act (FTCA) which provide malpractice coverage, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), federal funding, and other federal and state rules and regulations that govern CHCs as health care organizations and employers.

CHC Clinic Operations

CCHN aides and shares resources with CHCs in the areas of operational compliance and excellence, governance, pharmacy programs, grant funding, data reporting, and more. This includes support for and analysis of annual Uniform Data System (UDS) reporting, identifying, and applying for federal, state, and private funding opportunities, and opportunities to grow the CHC model statewide to ensure access to health care. CCHN offers multiple group purchasing opportunities to support clinic operations, which are detailed under Purchasing Opportunities page.

Workforce Development, Recruitment, and Retention

CCHN provides support to strengthen and grow the existing CHC workforce and build a committed future workforce through technical assistance, training for CHC staff, and presenting about CHCs as employers. This includes supporting human resource directors, providing resources to connect CHC staff to scholarships, loan repayment, and continuing education opportunities, and supporting CHC health professions education and training efforts. CCHN also supports recruitment and retention efforts by maintaining an up-to-date list of open CHC positions on the CHC Careers job board, and collecting, analyzing and sharing findings for data on CHC salaries, benefits, and turnover.

Community Development

CCHN is committed to growing and strengthening new and existing CHCs statewide. This includes providing technical assistance to communities exploring the CHC model, ensuring existing CHCs are aware of areas of unmet need and gathering information on how others are working to address this, and supporting collaboration of CHCs and partner organizations. In addition, CCHN shares resources to inform needs assessments about upcoming funding opportunities, and to support capital campaigns and service expansion projects.
