Community Health Centers (CHC) are federally designated entities that provide comprehensive primary care services regardless of ability to pay.  CHCs also provide access to dental and mental health services. CHCs have been around for more than 45 years.  In fact, one of the first health centers in the nation is here in Colorado – Denver Health's Community Health Services.

CHCs are nonprofit or public health care providers with a mission to provide comprehensive primary health care to low income working families. In 2011, Colorado’s CHCs provided more than 1.9 million visits, including medical, dental, and mental health, to more than 474,000 patients. More than 188,000 Colorado children received primary health care from CHCs in 2011.

18 CHCs operate 152 clinic sites in 36 Colorado counties and care for patients living in 58 counties. Fifteen CHCs operate 48 dental clinic sites in 25 Colorado counties and provided more than 218,500 visits to more than 93,000 patients in 2011.
