Clinica Tepeyac Gains CHC Status; Three Additional Communities

To Gain Access to Health Care

Statement attributable to
Annette Kowal
President and Chief Executive Officer
Colorado Community Health Network (CCHN)

DENVER― Access to health care will grow for Coloradans, due to the announcement today that Clínica Tepeyac in Denver has achieved federally qualified Community Health Center status, and three existing Colorado Community Health Centers have been granted funding to open facilities in medically underserved areas. We at Colorado Community Health Network extend our congratulations to these four Community Health Centers, and we stand ready to continue providing assistance in caring for Colorado communities. This is wonderful news for Colorado during this week, which is National Health Center Week, and this year, which is the 50th anniversary of the Community Health Center program.

Clínica Tepeyac opened its doors 21 years ago and will expand its capacity to provide culturally responsive health care to the local community. It will be providing comprehensive primary, behavioral health and preventive health care services in the Community Health Center model.

MCPN will be opening a new facility in north Aurora top provide primary medical, dental, and behavioral health care to an area of Aurora that currently has high levels of unmet needs.

Peak Vista Community Health Centers will be opening a clinic site near one of Colorado Springs emergency rooms to provide easier access to medically underserved families and individuals whose needs would be better met in a primary health care setting, allowing the emergency department to focus on care best provided in the ER setting.

Salud Family Health Centers will be opening a new clinic in north Fort Collins to meet the needs of a growing population in Larimer County.

The federal funding for these sites was announced today by U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Sylvia M. Burwell. A total of $169 million in Affordable Care Act funding was granted to 266 new Community Health Center sites in 46 states.

Congratulations to these Community Health Centers and to Coloradans who will benefit from better access to health care.

The Colorado Community Health Network (CCHN) is the unified voice for Colorado’s 19 Community Health Centers (CHCs) and their patients. CHCs provide a health care home for more than 650,000 of their community members – more than one in eight people in Colorado – from 61 of the state’s 64 counties. Without CHCs, hundreds of thousands of Colorado’s low-income families and individuals would have no regular source of health care. CCHN’s mission is to increase access to high quality health care for people in need in Colorado. For more information about CCHN, please visit www.cchn.org.
