Colorado Community Health Centers Celebrate 50 years
Schedule of CHC Events Around Colorado Starts Aug. 3

Denver, Colo.— The Community Health Center program started 50 years ago as a pilot project during President Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty. Denver Health was among the first in the nation to receive a grant from the new Community Health Center program in 1965. Marillac Clinic in Grand Junction earned Community Health Center designation earlier this year, and joins the 19 Community Health Centers that now serve as health care homes for more than one in eight people in Colorado.

National Health Center Week, Aug. 9-15, celebrates the legacy and the future of America’s Community Health Centers. The schedule of events is too full in Colorado to be contained in a week – events kick off on Aug. 3.  The Colorado Community Health Network (CCHN) is the unified voice for Colorado’s 18 Community Health Centers (CHCs) and their patients. CHCs provide a health care home for more than 650,000 of their community members – more than one in eight people in Colorado – from 61 of the state’s 64 counties. Without CHCs, hundreds of thousands of Colorado’s low-income families and individuals would have no regular source of health care. CCHN’s mission is to increase access to high quality health care for people in need in Colorado. For more information about CCHN, please visit www.cchn.org.
